Quantity

The first engraver of the work is Fernando Brambila, a very young author who was hired as a painter by the King of Spain to participate in a scientific expedition organized by the Spanish crown to get to know the American world. He joined in 1799 and although it was suspended 4 years later, he continued to be associated with the project until 1806. His main task was to paint the views of the most important ports and cities of the Spanish colony. Already established in Madrid in 1798 he will dedicate himself exclusively to the painting of landscapes and views, together with the engraving of plates where he demonstrated a great capacity with the work of etching and aquatint, in addition to collaborating in architectural decoration projects.

In 1799 he was granted the position of chamber painter and in 1815 he would obtain the title of academic from the Royal Academy of San Fernando. Finally, in 1821 under the orders of Ferdinand VII he reproduced different views of different palaces of the crown, thereby creating the "Collection of Views of the Royal Sites".

The other engraver of this work, Juan Gálvez, Spanish engraver and painter, student at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid. With the Peninsular War he moved to Zaragoza where he will work together with Brambila in the series presented here, "Zaragoza's Ruins", a project that ends with his return to Madrid. With his return, he was appointed a chamber painter and began to teach at the Academia de San Fernando. In 1814 they named him an individual of merit in said institution.

Some of the most outstanding works of his career include one of the ceilings of the Prince's House in El Escorial or the ceiling of the staircase of the El Pardo palace, among others.
