The original sculpture, in bronze, is located in the gardens of the Buen Retiro of Madrid. In 1877 the sculptor from Madrid Ricardo Bellver made it in plaster during his third year as pensioner at the Spanish Academy of Fine Arts of Rome. The following year he won with it the first-class medal at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts, celebrated in Madrid.
