José Hernández Muñoz was a Spanish painter, sculptor and graphic artist born in Tangier. Born in the Spanish Protectorate of Morocco, it was there, at the Libraire des Colonnes, where he exhibited his works for the first time at the age of 18. In 1964, he settled in Madrid, where he produced much of his work. He exhibited in numerous galleries in Spain and abroad, such as the Galerie Octave Negru in Paris, the Spanish Museum of Contemporary Art and ARCO in Madrid. He also worked extensively as an illustrator for publications, set designer and costume designer for plays.
